History

1947

Founding of the company “Elektroindustriewerk Freiberg”

Founded in 1947 under the name “Elektroindustriewerk Freiberg”, the company began its operations with the production of paper capacitors. This laid the foundation for a long industrial history in Freiberg, shaped by technical expertise, innovative strength, and continuous development in the field of electronic components.

1989

End of the nationalization of the company

The “VEB Kondensatorenwerk Freiberg” not only specialized in the manufacture of radial and axial aluminum electrolytic capacitors, but over the years also expanded its product range to include high-capacitance can electrolytic capacitors as well as high-performance tantalum capacitors. This broad product portfolio made a significant contribution to supplying numerous industrial sectors—from consumer electronics to telecommunications technology—and underscored the company’s technological expertise and willingness to innovate during the GDR era.

1990

Strategic realignment of the company after the GDR era

From 1990 to 1992, the company underwent a comprehensive strategic realignment, shaped significantly by the political and economic changes following German reunification. As part of this structural transformation, the product range was deliberately reduced in order to focus on economically viable and future-oriented core competencies.

At the same time, shares in the company were sold to attract new investors and ensure financial stability. In parallel, the company developed new business areas and markets, providing important impetus for modernization and international competitiveness.

1992

Year of founding of “FROLYT Kondensatoren und Bauelemente GmbH”

1992 marked a significant turning point in the company’s history: in that year, “FROLYT Kondensatoren und Bauelemente GmbH” was founded. As part of a management buy-out, senior employees acquired key parts of the company from the Treuhand assets at the time. With entrepreneurial courage and a clear view of the future, they continued operations under a new name. The strategic realignment was based on three clearly defined business areas: the manufacture of aluminum electrolytic capacitors, custom machinery engineering, and the assembly of power supply systems for mobile and fixed-network applications. This strategic focus laid the foundation for stable further development in reunified Germany and a successful transition to the free market.
